Detailed Information
Physical Description
Sophie is about 5'4", or about 162 cm. She has thick, rich brown hair, brown eyes, and a very bright and beautiful smile. She has a lean and agile looking figure.
Personal Information
Sophie is one of a pair of indentical twin girls born to middle class parents in France. She had always shown an affinity for language; she studied linguistics at Cambridge and is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Italian. She is also a talented painter, and has paintings in a few small galleries across the UK and France under her maiden name. She is a very passionate, vibrant person, a natural flirt, and loves dancing, music, and cooking.
She died in 1999 from ovarian cancer. Claire Driscoll and Avery Driscoll brought her back at the very beginning of 2006.
Backstory
Sophie had a relatively simple and ordinary childhood. Nothing extraordinary happened until she went to university. Accepted into Cambridge with honors, this was where she met John Griffith and fell completely in love with him (or was it lust?). Not even a year into their relationship she found herself pregnant with her first child (Nick Griffith). John, an aspiring architect, now out of school and quickly climbing the corporate ladders, promised her her dreams - they would travel, something she had always wanted to do, he would fund her passion for painting. She agreed to marry him on the spot and it was basically the beginning of the end: over this, she had a vicious falling out with her family (she would never see or speak to them again), and after the birth of their first child, Nick, Sophie and John's marriage quickly fell apart.
John was never a committed man, unbeknownst to Sophie. Four years her senior, he was the ultimate bachelor, and the true love of his life was money - something he had had little of growing up. Sophie begged him to spend more time at home with her and their son (who adored and idolized his father). She threatened to serve him with divorce papers on at least three separate occasions while they were still living in London, and each time he would tell her things were going to change, she just had to be patient, that he was nearing the top and soon they would have all the time in the world. Each time, she believed him.
That is, until he finally did reach the 'top' as he told her, and they began to travel - first to Florence, Italy, where she discovered him to be having an affair with an intern. This time she said she was done, she would take Nick and leave, but John threatened her. Where would she go, and with what money? She hadn't spoken to her family once in five years, and had a child to support. She would end up working a minimum wage job, and have nothing, not even her painting. Nick wouldn't grow up to have the life he deserved.
Devastated, Sophie knew he was right. That was the day she met Domani Reali.
Sophie and Domani's relationship was innocent at first. He, literally, caught her at her lowest point - distraught and attempting not to burst into tears in public, she had nearly been knocked to the ground by a bicyclist. He bought her coffee, and they became fast friends, though she purposefully hid from him the fact that she was 24 (six years his senior), married, and a mother. She found herself meeting him regularly, spending more and more time in his presence, even flirting with him, something characteristic of her that she hadn't done in years. Having sex with him had not been on her conscious mind, but still - about four months later she woke up at his flat, naked in bed beside the young, deceptively intelligent footballer and wanting to be nowhere else but right there for the rest of eternity.
It wasn't long after that Domani told her he loved her, and before anything else could be said Sophie blurted out that she was married and had a five year old son. Oh yes, and she was six years older than him. She thought she would have a continuous nervous breakdown in the day that he didn't speak to her, but that was it, only a day. After that, things were pretty much history. Domani was around Nick much more than John, and every so often they would come up with excuses for her to stay away all night, taking Nick and staying at Domani's flat - unbeknownst to John.
At the beginning of 1987, Sophie had to return with John to London. She wanted nothing more than to stay with Domani in Italy, but they would have had little money, and a child to support. (Also, Domani was only 19 at the time.) That is, if John didn't take her to court for parental rights over Nick. It wouldn't be a seamless break, and she had no idea how to predict John. She told Domani they would figure it out, this was not goodbye, and went back to London. She was in for a surprise: she was pregnant. She knew it was Domani's, though shortly after returning to their house in Chelsea she had slept with John. While keeping in touch with Domani through letters, she spent a torturous few months wondering what to do.
What she decided was this: Domani wouldn't know, and John would think the baby his. She would keep things quiet until she could divorce John and take her children and go back to Italy. Only this never happened, because only about a year after returning to London, and only a few months after her son Jake was born, her contact with Domani was severed. She had moved again with John, this time to Ireland, and very possibly John may have intercepted a few of Domani's letters. Domani had been signed to AC Milan and moved to Milan, and so both of their addresses changed without either of them knowing. Soon forwarded mail wasn't being forwarded anymore and all contact was lost.
Sophie gave up trying to divorce or change John. After all, he gave her everything she wanted - except love.
She devoted herself to her boys for the next twelve years, home-schooling them at home in London and in seven different countries. She sold some of her paintings to a few galleries across the UK and France, and was happy with her children. Though she loved Nick and all of his theatrics dearly, Jake held a special place in her heart because he looked so much like Domani. She devoted all her time to teaching her boys everything she could, encouraging Nick's creativity and Jake's musical talent.
By the time she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, after months of unexplained illness and misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis, in early 1999, it was too late for treatment that would do anything more than prolong her life for a few months at most. She decided to go without, wanting to spend what time she had left as actively as she could with her boys, rather than ill and/or in hospital. She knew how intelligent Jake was and made John promise her he would give the boy proper schooling. She wanted him tested and accepted into Eton, which John had the money for. She died that following November.
Claire Driscoll and Avery Driscoll brought her back in 2005 to see Jake, during which time she also explained everything to Claire, whom she became fast friends with. She wanted Claire to know because she knew, someday, Jake would find out, and wanted someone to be able to explain her reasoning to him. But she was in for another surprise: Jake found out sooner than she imagined, and during the Christmas of 2005 she was even able to see Domani again for the first time in eighteen years.
There she conceived, found herself alive again, and the rest you can read about in DL.
