Detailed Information

Physical Description

As most of the men in the Fitzwilliams have been for centuries, Freddy was tall. He stood about 6'6", though his old age had him stooping over a cane. He was incredibly handsome as a young man, however. Built. Broad-shouldered. He had near-black hair that had been dirty blond until he hit puberty, and dark blue eyes.

He did appear somewhat imposing but he was really one of the easiest men to get along with.

Personal Information

Friendly and talented. Could make the most beautiful jewelry you ever saw. Enjoyed cricket and when in America, really got off on American football. He was well-traveled, well-spoken, knew four languages fluently, and was madly in love with his wife. He was quite an enforcer of rules in the household, but he had a huge soft spot and whenever any of his children were upset, he was the first one rushing to them with hugs. He specially babied his daughter, Anne.

Had some interesting scars from WWII and suffered no longterm emotional damage. He lost the top of his left pinky finger and thereafter always wore a big old cameo ring to draw attention to it. His hands were never in the best shape because of his line of work.

Backstory

Born to oldest son of Lord Alexander Fitzwilliam and the founder of the Fitzwilliam Diamond Company, little Freddie Fitzwilliam was born into extreme wealth. His mother, Mirabelle Jefferson (later Lady Mirabelle) was born in America, but her family, wealthy and well-respected Southern aristocrats with Welsh heritage, came to South Africa during the diamond rush when she was very young. She subsequently met Jameson Fitzwilliam, who was by then Sir Jameson Fitzwilliam, and also nineteen years her senior, and married him. The scandal was not the age difference, but the fact that Mirabelle (or Mira) was only just fifteen.

Frederick was the second child in the family and born the year the company was founded. His older brother, Anthony, drowned at just two years old. Mirabelle, who was only sixteen when Anthony was born, was heartbroken. But with the birth of Frederick and his younger sister, Twyla, the family was stabilized.

They didn't live on the estate. Jameson's family had been torn apart by a horrible tragedy that saw the deaths of many of his siblings and the disowning of another, and he couldn't stand the sight of the house. They built a beachfront mansion and traveled between Johannesburg and Cape Town frequently. They also often visited England.

When Frederick was old enough, he attended Eton, a long-standing tradition in the Fitzwilliam family. Twyla went to an all girl's school in England, as well. Frederick helped establish the company in London and became the CEO at a very young age. His wife, Lady Elizabeth Fitzwilliam, would later help push FDC into jewelry and fashion.
