On 27 November, 1982, Claire Fitzwilliam went out to dinner at the ultra-fancy Ritz Restaurant at The Ritz London.

Jack Camden was also dining out at the Ritz, spending far more money than he could usually afford in order to finally break up with his then-girlfiend, Melanie #23456.

Claire went to wash her hands. Jack noticed her and followed her immediately, waiting outside the bathroom and stopping her as she came out. He asked her out but Claire was reluctant, eventually agreeing to simply see him again in order to decide whether or not she actually wanted to date him. They went out for ice cream and, for almost two more years, saw each other regularly and fell madly, madly in love.

As she was a virgin at the time, and was very careful about preserving it until the time was just right, their relationship had a great deal of sexual frustration, especially for Jack, who had been quite an overly-sexual young punk before meeting Claire.

They had a very good relationship, as far as love and devotion went. But outside factors, especially each teen's group of friends (whom neither actually got along with very well on their own), who did not approve of the relationship, made things incredibly difficult for them.

Claire's upper-class, ballet dancing friends (with the exception of Avery Murdoch, who actually went to the same secondary school as Jack) thought he would cheat on her and ruin her entire reputation and everything they thought Claire stood for. They encouraged rumors about Jack cheating on her that led to an emotional breakdown on Claire's part.

Jack's friends hated Claire and had they not been at the mercy of Jack's fists, would likely have taken great pleasure in physically hurting her just to get her to go away. They claimed she was taming him, putting her prim little foot down on everything Jack should be doing.

But in March 1984, they were in a horrible car accident. A drunk driver hit Jack's Trans Am, effectively killing Claire (had she not been immortal) and giving Jack a nasty broken arm and a bad head injury. After the crash, Jack and Claire were inseparable and even spoke of marriage and moving back to South Africa. She finally slept with him and Jack, in secret, was preparing to ask her to marry him. He had been weighing whether or not to, in his mind, on the day of the crash. The ring remained in his jacket pocket.

Unfortunately, Jack ran into the man who hit their car. He ran into him and then beat the shit out of him, landing the man in the ICU and landing himself in the custody of the police after the man (or perhaps his family) pressed charges soon after.

Jack was convicted of assault and battery on 2 June, 1984, and began serving a three year term on the 4th, missing their anniversary.

They spoke over the phone and through letters for a few weeks until Jack couldn't take Claire's constant begging and crying and hung up on her.

For twenty two years, they never talked or saw one another again.

Until 31 July, 2006, when Jack Camden, now known more as Johnny Camden, sold his business, a mechanic shop called Claire's, went to Claire's parents' home in Kensington, London, England, and located the girl, now woman, he had been dwelling on for two decades.

On 3 September, 2006, he asked Claire to marry him.

They married on 3 December, 2006.
