John met Sophie while studying architecture at the University of Cambridge. They had very rapidly progressing, very passionate relationship, that resulted in Sophie becoming pregnant (with son Nick Griffith), and would lead to their subsequent marriage. Unfortunately, the marriage would quickly fall apart as John was very commitment phobic. Though he did love Sophie dearly, he cheated on her many times and often stayed away from home, traveling on business.
He found work easily, as he was also very work-oriented, and quickly climbed the inside ladder to becoming one of the companies finest architects. After the birth of what he thought was his second son, Jake Griffith, he became somewhat aware of his wife's affair with Domani Reali and distanced himself from the family further. After Sophie's death nothing changed, except his conscience. He died in the fall of 2004 in a plane crash off the coast of Portugal, coming back from a business trip in Brazil.
