Jack's Family

Once upon a time there was a somewhat wealthy family living in Llandovery, Wales. Like everyone else in Llandovery, they had a lot of property and even a barn. On 4 May, 1987, the wife gave birth to a baby boy and they called him Jack. Jack wasn't any better off than most kids his age, despite his father's apparent ability to save money, and often wore overlarge tousers and a big belt, and even carried around a doll.

But all was not well in the family and by the time the boy was old enough to understand it, he only ever saw his mother drinking in a room he didn't like to go in, while his father stayed out. When the boy turned eleven, his mother gave him a little sister called Annabelle. Annabelle wasn't supposed to happen but their mother tried to save the last threads of a broken marriage by using the little infant to make her husband stay.

He didn't.

When Jack was twelve and Annabelle was barely a year old, their father left and never came back.

Their mother kept drinking.

Now the children are not hers.
