About

Actually a chain, there are soon to be four hotels Bérard in France – the main hotel, though, the one that has been in the family since Jérémie Bérard and wife Fabiola opened it in 1950 (on a sizeable loan from Jérémie's father Pierrick Rémi, making the chain a splinter of le Société, which it still is today) is located on the coastline of Calais.

A splinter hotel, opened by Jérémie's son Albert, is located in Berck-sur-Mer, and is called l'Hôtel des Signes(probably, pardon the lack of existence in Rue's French grammar, her translators are both at work). It was opened in 1985, when Albert's son, Nicodéme, was old enough to inherit the main hotel. Nicodéme currently runs the Hotel Bérard with his wife. His older daughter, Coralie, is the manager, and her husband, Murray, runs the restaurant.

The younger of the Bérard brothers, Anatole, opened a separate hotel in Paris in 1963, and his descendants run the Hotel Bérard Metropolitan, whose name Rue is not even going to attempt to translate into French right now.

Nicodéme currently has plans to open a third hotel in Le Havre when his younger daughter, Joelle, is finished with school.

The Hotel

The main Hotel Bérard is located at 10 rue Richelieu, right along the park. It is owned and operated by Nicodéme Bérard and his family, who live on the property in one of the penthouse suites upstairs. Both of his daughters and grandchildren grew up on the grounds (and his older daughter met her current husband when he started working on the hotel). It has been in the family for three generations and it shows.

Formerly a war-torn estate, as the hotel passes through the generations it just gets nicer and nicer.
