Out of Character
Hello, my name is Francis Ryan and I couldn't keep my sperm in my penis.
There's probably more interesting stuff about me, such as how I married and settled down in Dublin and had two kids, but the only reason I matter is because I knocked up Cecily Ó Móráin and am Isabella Fitzwilliam's father.
Not that I know it. Not that I'll ever know it. Because I was a sailor and sailors go where the wind takes them.
Scout wrote that but it was 100% accurate.

Detailed Information
Physical Description
5'8" or so, blond-haired, blue-eyed, freckled and ruddy-cheeked. Has tattoos of naked ladies in green ink on his arms and chest. Smokes cigars religiously. When he was young, his ears were kind of large. When he knew Cecily, the only tattoo he had was an anchor and heart on his left forearm.
He looks like a sailor and he'll never not look like a sailor. He has the most charming, slightly crooked smile you'll ever encounter. And really muscular arms. Now he sounds like Pop-Eye. His arms aren't that large. And I don't think he goes out of his way to eat spinach, either. And his wife is way cuter than Olive Oyl.
But he probably loved the cartoon.
Looks to be about his late-teens, but in public he ages himself into his forties. Obviously, just to look at his daughter, he's a reader. His wife and children are also angels. They descended from the Aran Islands line of the Irish angel family.
Personal Information
Francis Ryan's family scattered all over the west coast of Ireland. They had lived in Ballyvaughan for centuries and centuries (hence most of the ruins you'll find there). They're all angels, but they don't live in a high and mighty way about it. They marry their fellows because their fellows are hot, although there have been quite a few humans in the family.
Sailor lineage runs deep into the family's history. Francis' father was a sailor, as was his grandfather, and so on and so forth. They participated in a lot of uprisings against England because they really hated England and still sort of really really really do.
Francis is only passionate about one thing: hating the English. Okay, and beer. And sex with the wife. So that's three things, but his hatred for England is extremely pervasive. He absolutely hates that his daughter married an Englishman of dubious (in his opinion) lineage, and often calls him "The Brit" or "That Man". Sending his grandsons to Eton was the nail in the coffin. While he doesn't hate his son-in-law, he argues with him more than he agrees with him, even if he agrees.
But even so, he loves his family. They live together in the pub, the whole lot of them, and he couldn't imagine it any other way.
Ultimately, especially socially, he's very laid-back. He has a loud, rousing laugh and he laughs at just about everything, and a very thick accent. He speaks Irish and makes sure his family knows it, too.
He's boisterous, he's easy to please, he doesn't often get angry (except if you mention England or That Man does something), he loves his family. He also loves to tell stories. Cecily usually isn't one of them, because for Francis, it was a rather anticlimactic meeting and he likes stories with punchlines. (And oh, what a punchline he'd have if he only knew.)
As a young sailor, he was very much the ringleader of his group. He loved dirty jokes, loved sex, loved being obnoxious. Just as you'd expect.
Backstory
Francis' family had been visiting the Tory Island family for centuries. During the 18th century especially, his parents and other sailors his father knew, most of whom were also angels (including Tómas Ó Móráin, the man who fathered Cecily), would have loud ceilis with Afric and Aoife and their parents and family members.
The stories of these parties always fascinated little Francie, so after he became a sailor, he decided to go north and meet them. It took quite a few years to have a reason, but in 1911, he got his chance. It was a very bad early winter but whatever happened, he charmed and bedded Cecily Ó Móráin and left before dawn the next day.
Out of that, he unknowingly had his first child, but he never returned because he never had the chance or the strong desire.
He fought in WWI a few years later. Married his wife some time after. Fought in WWII. The two daughters were born some time after that. He opened up the pub in the 60s and has been running it ever since. His wife, too, is an angel.
His girls, both blonde as he is, are both in a band with their husbands. This band, which also has non-family members, plays at the pub and records music. It's both traditional and nontraditional, mixing old songs and new songs.

Backstory: Simplified
Random sailor who knocked up Cecily Ó Móráin and accidentally fathered Isabella Fitzwilliam. Only Cecily knows his name and only Cecily knows he has a daughter. Isabella was never told anything. Francis will most likely never find out.
