The Spectacular
I want to play in the Spectacular. What do I do?
Use the Dirty Life application and the Spectacular cast list. You can opt to fill out a blank role, or you can take one of the names provided and develop a character that way, instead. Adoption will be moved to this wiki, and any available characters will be found here (if you adopt, there are separate ways to apply, so please follow the instructions there).
Otherwise, treat this wiki as your home for rules and canon, and the SpectacularWiki for all circus information.
If I'm here only for the Spectacular, where do I set up a wiki account?
Ultimately we would like to consolidate all characters to this wiki, so you'll set up your account here. A link to your character will be included on the cast list.
If I already have two accounts, should I move my things from the SpectacularWiki?
You can if you like, but this isn't necessary yet (and may in fact never be).
General
If I only want to play in DH, how do I apply?
Using the general Dirty Life application.
Is there an OOC community?
Treat dirty_lives as your OOC community.
What rules do I follow/how do I play?
DL rules apply at DH, with some changes. Specifically, these.
What eras are appropriate?
Anything reasonably playable (as in, anything within the last three or so thousand years--anything earlier is just approaching the unnecessary). We want humans as well as we know them, for the sake of some amount of accuracy. Dinosaurs are great and all, but this isn't a crack game.
We recommend you stick within the last thousand years, going no more recent than the last three months.
What if I want to change something I wrote? Or what if current canon overrides something? And other such issues.
You are free to rewrite, reword, rethink, or reconsider every post made in DH. DL is where the most solid canon lies, and if you change something in the past, you can delete the original post and start a new one. Posting is not chronological, and the only thing you should do is warn anyone affected by the change. We welcome evolution in storytelling.
How closely do I have to adhere to things in Dirty Life? Do I need to follow Dirty Life?
Quite closely, and yes and no. Essentially, what has been established should not be changed unless by the person who decided it in the first place. Overriding important details, pretending certain things never happened, or adding details to past events should be done with caution, permission, or not at all. While some characters are still under enough development to not rely on their backstory, other characters are fully dependent on their history and changing anything would be inappropriate. Ask if you're unsure.
As for paying attention to what goes on now, this is only necessary when it comes to learning canon backstory relevant to your interests. For the most part, you'll ignore current events.
You must play with established canon. Fantasy included. DH is still within the DL world, it's just set in the past.
