Detailed Information

Physical Description

Aoife is about 5'9" and has very curly, auburn hair, and a lot of freckles. Her eyes are pale green. Unlike her niece, Aoife is slightly less imposing and slightly less haunting simply because she has a very simple, very calm life.

Personal Information

Aoife has never had a close relationship or any children. She heeded her parents' instructions and unlike her identical twin sister, Afric, had no qualms in doing so. She has had a few brief affairs, but nothing serious and nothing recurring (there haven't been many sailors in recent decades).

She's slightly more carefree than her niece and far more easy-going. Her bigotry, though there, is not as lethal. She accepts her niece's daughter's marriage to a human, but is not interested in anything beyond that. She, like Cecily, is incredibly powerful and loyal to her family.

Backstory

Born and raised on Tory Island, Aoife had one sibling, an identical twin sister called Afric. Her parents used to jump between Tory and Achill Island, and traveling, however minimally, has remained a part of Aoife's behavior.

Her sister was slightly more outgoing and her family often entertained sailors who stopped at the island. They had ceilis and parties and played music and whenever distant angels visited the property, everything was twice as merry. When Afric met and had one child with a boy from the south, Tómas Ó Móráin, Aoife stayed with her sister to help take care of the little girl. They still saw distant relations constantly and Aoife loved to play with the sailors. They intrigued her. She's slept with a few humans.

By the time her sister and brother-in-law crossed over, at the start of the 20th Century, Aoife was ready to stay with their daughter, who didn't like that her parents had gone. She intended to stay until Cecily was ready and until other family members moved back. Unfortunately, all did not go according to plan. Cecily had an affair with a sailor and conceived a daughter--she named her Isibél. Aoife had to be there to help with the birth and to help take care of the girl. Unlike when Cecily was young, family was not in and out of the house and there were no peers. Isibél was very outgoing and precocious, not to mention rebellious, and Cecily struggled.

When Isibél ran away, Aoife had to stay. Cecily was never the same. They spend a solid year looking for the girl, but it became apparent she was not coming back. Aoife would return to the country now and again to continue looking, eventually even finding her but unsuccessfully getting her to return.

She never told Cecily. Life on the island became quiet.

Twenty years later, Aoife was there when Isibél, who now went by Isabella, returned. She was there for the fight that sent Isabella away almost permanently. She was there when Cecily decided to find her daughter twenty five years after that. She was there when Isabella returned another forty years after that.

She doesn't know when she will leave because it doesn't seem that her niece is ready. While she doesn't really mind, she also misses her sister. They had a very strong connection.
